Parmelee Man Pleads Guilty to Third Degree Burglary

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Harold James Black Bull, age 19, of Parmelee, South Dakota, appeared before United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange on September 12, 2012, and pled guilty to Third Degree Burglary.  The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years’ in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both.

The conviction stems from an incident that took place on February 27, 2012, when Black Bull and others broke into the Kary’s store in Parmelee by using a crow bar to break the lock off the doorway.  Black Bull aided and abetted the burglary, which included entering the store, looking through merchandise, and taking U.S. currency, property and items.

The investigation was conducted by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for December 4, 2012.  The defendant was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
